Eric Joyner – Art Gallery

We have been studying an American artist called Eric Joyner. He draws and paints pictures containing robots. Eric Joyner always includes a doughnut, cupcake or yum yum in his drawings. We created our own drawings, using his style.

This week we listened to the same songs again but this time we thought about words we could use to describe the songs.

Music – The Planet Suite

This term, we are going to be looking at The Planet Suite by Gustav Holst. During our lesson today, we listened to the following pieces of music and created a representation through drawing, sketching, words and doodles.

1. Mars, the Bringer of War
2. Venus, the Bringer of Peace
3. Mercury, the Winged Messenger
4. Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity

Here are some examples of the representations we created for the music.

Creating a Clay Dragon

We have had an amazing time making our clay dragons with Louise. We used lots of utensils to create a range of effects on our dragons. Some of us made 3D dragons and some of us made square shaped pots with dragons wrapped around them. We will have our clay dragons back in approximately two weeks, after they have been fired in the kiln.

Art – Creating Dragon Scales

In Art we were making dragon scales with different materials. Some were

sparkly,rough and soft. We could cut the materials into any kind of shape that

looks like proper dragon scales [some we couldnt cut].

Pentatonic Scale

As part of our music curriculum, we have started learning about the pentatonic scale. The pentatonic scale consists of five notes and are the black notes on a keyboard. Many songs have been sung using this scale. We sang a few songs including ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ and ‘I’m Gonna Sing’. We also experimented playing the pentatonic scale.
